Dental Implants
Improved practices and modern techniques in dentistry have allowed us to hang onto our original teeth for a longer period of time than our parents and grandparents. When a tooth is lost or missing, however, it can now be replaced with an implanted tooth.
Dental implants are great replacements for missing or severely damaged teeth. Dr. Kederian has a close association with several specialists who have the knowledge and training to make sure her patients keep their implants in place and looking good for a long time. When seeing a specialist to have an implant installed, he will first remove the damaged tooth and make a space to insert a hollow implant. When this is complete, the patient will be given adequate time, usually two to three months, to wait while his own bone surrounds and locks down on the implant.
When the hollow implant is solidly in place, Dr. Kederian will install an abutment (connector) into the hollow space. A manufactured crown is then placed and cemented to the abutment to complete the installation. Because of Dr. Kederian's high standards, only the best quality products are used to make sure the patient's new crown feels and looks like a real tooth again.
The amazing technology of the dental implant allows patients to regain confidence when they smile or speak, knowing that the hole that used to be in their smile is now gone. The implant allows the patient to maintain a normal lifestyle, as there is no special care required beyond normal oral hygiene and checkups. And since a dental implant cannot get a cavity, it is a permanent replacement for a missing tooth.
Other options besides an implant should be discussed before deciding on an implant, and Dr. Kederian will be more than happy to review all of the choices available to you. Working as a team, you will together decide whether a dental implant is your best course of action.
