Porcelain Fixed Bridges
Is at least one of your teeth missing? Sometimes, teeth are lost because of an accident, never came in because of a genetic defect, or got pulled because they were too decayed to save. But cosmetic dentistry has come to the rescue again, and now your teeth and your smile can be put back. Dr. Kederian can tell you about the options available to fill in the hole where your tooth was.
Dr. Kederian can discuss with you the two options available to replace a missing tooth. She can directly install an implant, using a metal post inserted in the jawbone to hold the tooth in place, or she can install a fixed bridge and add a floating tooth that will re-establish your smile without the need for an implant.
A bridge is sometimes used to fill in for missing teeth. As long as there are two healthy teeth existing, one on each side of the gap, the space can be filled in by using a floating tooth. Called pontics in dentistry, these floating teeth are attached to the permanent teeth by installing porcelain crowns on the good teeth.
Dr. Kederian uses only porcelain bridges to replace missing teeth. They look and feel natural, and can be shaped exactly to match the existing teeth in color and size. This means that the hole in your smile will be fitted with a perfectly-matching porcelain tooth.
Dr. Kederian will determine whether a fixed bridge is your best option or not, and if it is, she will start by prepping the good teeth on each side of the gap to accept crowns. When the permanent teeth are properly prepared, Dr. Kederian will take a mold of your mouth where the missing teeth and newly ground down teeth are located, and send it off to a lab. Temporary crowns will be installed on your good teeth until the bridge can be fabricated and delivered. Once that's complete, the doctor will take a series of measurements of the size, shape, and color of your existing teeth so the bridge teeth can be fabricated to match. Once the bridge is made, you will come back to the office, where Dr. Kederian will set the bridge permanently in place. Your new porcelain teeth will fit perfectly, and match your other good teeth like they were real.
Once you've decided you want to fill in the hole in your teeth, see Dr. Kederian for an examination and analysis. If she decides a fixed bridge is the correct solution for you, you can rest assured that it will be installed by a true professional and installed properly, to return your smile to normal and provide you once again with a full set of teeth.
